Probably, this name doesn't sound familiar to most of the people who read this. But this finnish painter was very well-known for painting pictures like the Aino's Triptych, as well as many other pictures related to the main stories of the Kalevala

"The Forging of the Sampo": Ilmarinen, to be able to marry with Louhi's daughter, decide to build a sampo, a mill able to produce flour, salt and even money. But, in my opinion, the mill didn't produce several things, but a lot of grain, enough to guarantee the well-being: "flour" would be the part to eat, "salt" the part to keep (salting), and "money" the part to sell

"Lemminkäinen's mother": Lemminkäinen wanted also to marry with Louhi's daughter, but Louhi ordered him to pass three tests. Lemminkäinen couldn't pass the last one, kill the Tuoni's swan, because he was killed by a shepherd and thrown to the Tuoni's river, where he was ripped to pieces.
His mother searched him, and when she found him on the river, she brought a rake to take the Lemminkäinen's pieces out of the water, and finally, she achieved to ressurect him.

"The Defense of the Sampo": Probably one of the most interesting pictures of this painter. Väinämöinen, Ilmarinen and Lemminkäinen want to share the sampo with Louhi, the Pohjola's landlady. She refuse, so Väinämöinen made their enemies fall asleep and he steal the sampo. Once on the sea, Louhi follow them with her boat, broken by the heroes. But Louhi, desperately, becomes a giant bird. Finally, Väinämöinen breaks all the bird's claws, except one, which Louhi uses to break the sampo into several pieces
But the most interesting fact is the symbolism of the picture. Finland has never been a country enough strong, and it has always been under the control of Sweden. But two centuries ago, Russia has tried to control Finland, so the Finnish country was just a kind of shared territory. That is to say, the side of Väinämöinen represents Sweden, the Louhi's one is Russia and the sampo the finnish territory
